Saving Indonesia’s Movie Industry

Posted: February 19, 2011 in News

Hi, I made this blog as my way of showing the world that there’s a crisis going on in Indonesia. The movie industry in my beloved country is facing a crisis it never faced before. The world’s shutting down to it due to the Directorate General of Customs and Excise’s incredibly greedy and stupid move in increasing (or essentially doubling) the tax on imported movies. So no more Hollywood movies, no more Chinese, Bollywood, Thailand, France, Japanese, Korean, or any other foreign movies will be distributed in Indonesia.

The country’s own movie industry is still an infant, squirming, trying to be better, but unable to do so due to the directors’ lack of vision and creativity. Currently, the national movie industry is filled with only 2 genres, sex horror movies and lame teenage love dramas. It cannot, and will never, ever keep up with the rest of the world the way it is. Especially now.

You guys can read everything about it on my next post. I’ve personally translated Noorca M. Massardi’s (our local Movie Industry hero) article that was posted on our local newspaper. The world needs to know about this, and I hope I can do something to help improve things.

In the future, I’ll be translating more articles related to the matter. For now, thank you for reading and thank you for your support.
